Video Commentary

When I was in sixth grade, my class and I went on a field trip to the Henry Dorley Zoo in Omaha, Neb. I remember being excited for the same reason as everyone else; we got to get out of school even though it was only for a day. The night before the big day, I stayed at my dad’s house. He was helping me pack my lunch and as we were doing so he decided that we needed to go up to the Pump and Pantry in Doniphan to get some snacks to take along with me so that I had something fun to eat.
As we were on our way, it didn’t take us long since it’s only about five or six miles from home, he told me that I could pick out three or four things of my choice. It didn’t matter whether it was candy, chips, something to drink, etc. just whatever I wanted. I’m not sure what all I picked out except for one thing in particular. I remember getting this Starburst sucker that changed both colors and flavors as you ate it. I wasn’t allowed to eat it until the next day on our field trip because it was for my lunch. For some reason, I remember that it was all I could think of and couldn’t wait until I was able to eat it the next day.
The morning of the exciting field trip to the Henry Dorley Zoo arrived and I was bouncing off the walls with excitement because I was excited to see all the different animals and secretly because I wanted to eat that Starburst sucker in my lunch box. The drive down to Henry Dorley Zoo took about three hours and my friends and I talked and played games such as tic tac toe and hangman on the way down. Talking to my friends and playing those games helped to forget about that Starburst sucker for the time being. In fact I had almost forgotten about that Starburst sucker until lunchtime because as soon as we arrived at the zoo we immediately began looking through all the exhibits, learning about the all the animals we saw by reading the displays that were posted in front of all the cages and environments.
I remember walking through this exhibit that was like a rainforest. It was this big open room with lush tropical plants and different species of wildlife found in the rainforest such as sloths and toucans. There was a constant spray of water mist all time to simulate the constant amount of rain that the rainforest receives.
Lunchtime arrived and I was finally able to eat that sucker that I had been thinking about all day the day before. I ate my sandwich first, followed by my chips, cookies and bottle of grape juice. I saved the starburst sucker for last and savored it, taking in each flavor at a time. It was well worth the wait and anticipation because the sucker was awesome.
As soon as we got home, I told my dad about all the things we did and saw. I especially made sure to tell him how good the sucker was and that I was glad he took me up to Pump and pantry and allowed me to pick out what I wanted.

Korn

I am going to the Korn concert this coming Thursday with my friend Brian. I am really excited and plan on getting up front in the mosh pit. The last time we went to a concert together, I ended up having some guy that was body surfing land on my head. It was expected though simply because I was in the mosh pit. A week later I went to the chiropracter and he wasn't too happy with me because I was all out of place from my neck clear down to my lower back. Oh well, I'm still gonna keep going to concerts.

Family

I was talking to my mom the other day about how I sometimes feel as though I am the outcast in my family simply because I tend to feel ignored by my siblings from time to time. She agreed with me because she sometimes felt that way when she was growing up.
I don't think that my siblings do anything intentionally, it's just that we all have our own lives and group of friends that we associate with. I know that we all love each other, it just isn't expressed much. It probably doesn't help much that I am the only one who likes to read as a hobby.

World War II

Some photos were recently donated to the Holocaust Museum that showed Nazi Party members digging up graves of American soldiers. There were some other photos that showed Americans after they were rescued by fellow comrades. Their bodies were so skinny friail looking because they were starved and forced to work all the time in German tunnels. If you follow this link http://news.aol.com/article/photo-nazis-dig-up-american-grave/445643?icid=mainhp-laptopdl1link3http%3A%2F%2Fnews.aol.com%2Farticle%2Fphoto-nazis-dig-up-american-grave%2F445643 it will take you to where you can view the photos and read about them.

I know the exteamities of the war and the Holocaust are well known, I just still can't believe some of the stories and pictures and just how bad things really were. Even with the musuem, we will never know what it was like to live through those times.

Grandma Eleanor

Macaroni and cheese, sugar cookies with frosting and sprinkles, and raspberry sherbet punch. These were just a few of the homemade goodies that my Grandma Eleanor would make for Christmas and all the other holidays and family functions.
Every Christmas my sister, brothers, cousins and I would all be SOOO excited for the homemade goodies that we would forget about our presents until it was time to open them. We would go directly to the kitchen and grab as many cookies as our parents would let us have before dinner. They would then send us downstairs to play and anxiously wait in anticipation for the macaroni and cheese, sherbet punch and the rest of dinner.
As we would be driving to grandma’s house in York, NE, my siblings and I would be talking about what food we were most excited for and the result was always the same: all three!!! We were never able to pick just one, we would constantly be changing our minds and then we would be like I’m excited for all of them because I can’t choose just one.
There was always such a high demand for the sugar cookies with all of us kids being so close together in age that my grandma Eleanor would make dozens of sugar cookies ahead of time and freeze them so that they were ready for us to gobble down. Even as we got older, we still ate a lot of the sugar cookies. I think ate more than the others since cookies are my weak spot. This still holds true today.
Homemade macaroni and cheese. Where do I even begin on this one? My grandma has always made macaroni and cheese from her own recipe and has never made instant macaroni and cheese. Grandma Eleanor’s macaroni and cheese was even a big hit when my father was a little boy. He and his brothers and sister loved it just as much as my brothers, sister, cousins and I do.
This dish has become a tradition in our family. There is not one family function that has gone without this popular dish. My dad has made it for us and I have I even drove home to Doniphan from Kearney just to eat some. My sister has made it for her husband and his family and they have become as addicted to it as my family is.
It was my grandma’s birthday last Friday. She would have been 82 had the cancer not taken her form us two years ago, but I’m proud to say that she gave it her all and fought the disease for ten long years. My dad had cried that day. It was one of the rare times I had ever seen him cry and the only other exception that I can think of was at my sisters’ wedding on Valentine’s Day earlier this year. I am very close to my dad and it was hard for me to see him so distraught.
I know she isn’t able to be with us any more in person but I do know that she is with us in our spirits and our hearts. My grandma had loved to fly when she was younger and had always loved planes. The day of her funeral, a little Cessna 140 had flew over her burial as the minister was delivering her speech. It was a sign to us all that we should continue with our lives and not to mourn for her because she is in a better place and that is what she would have wanted us to do. It was a very emotional day for the family when she was laid to rest that hot July day. She has been and will be forever missed.

Sring Break

Most students spend their spring break going to the beach or doing some other exciting activity that at least gets them away from their monotonous ordinary lives. Some students however, are not that fortunate in the means of being able to go somewhere due to monetary reasons or because of their work schedules and are forced to stay home over spring break. It amazes me as to how much you don’t think about working until it’s when you want to go have fun with all of your other friends who are all going out partying or going on vacations somewhere.

I was one of those unfortunate students who had to stay home over spring break because there was no one else to work. One employee requested the week off because she was going back home to Omaha and was not allowed to stay in the dorms over break. Another employee called in sick a few times and I was called in to cover the hours, which was no surprise to me. Now, I don’t mind working over break, but because of the one employee gone and the other sick, I had to work every day over break and even a few days before spring break even started which amounted to nine days worked in a row. Don’t get me wrong, I do like my job, it’s just that a nine day stretch for any job will become tiring and sometimes very stressful depending on the type of job you have.

On the lighter side of things, my spring break did have its fun moments. One of my friends got married the Saturday over spring break before classes resumed on Monday morning and the reception was a blast. There was an open bar all night until the keg ran out, and then you had to pay for your drink which was fine because by the time that happened I was already a little tipsy and feeling pretty good.

Towards the middle of the reception the groomsmen and I snuck out and went to the hotel room where the newlywed couple was staying. We had already gotten permission from the hotel staff to trash or “decorate” the room as some might call it. The ironic yet funny part of this scenario aside from decorating the room was that one of the groomsmen’s parents were the ones who provided all the necessary goods required to decorate the room.

Some of the items used in the decorating would include shaving cream, rice krispies, condoms, colored Easter grass, and a pair of women’s panties. Doors, walls, mirrors and picture frames were all decorated with shaving cream. Light fixtures were decorated with the Easter grass and had condoms handing from them. Rice krispies were put under the sheets and Easter grass was spread all over the room. Not really sure what happened to the panties.
Some of us got shaving cream on ourselves, including myself, when we were finished decorating the room as we were throwing away the empty cans. I had gotten some on my shoulder and dress which I so casually wiped on one of the groomsman’s face and instead of retaliating he helped me clean off my dress and then we proceeded to head back to the reception. There was one other thing that was done to the room which I will not explain because it is somewhat gross and should not be mentioned.

Overall I had a fairly exciting spring break even though I had to work every day. As crazy as it may sound, I would not change anything about my spring break. I liked it just the way it was.

Twilight Review

I have both read and seen Twilight. I really liked the book but I thought that the movie was horrible. It did not follow the book and I kept looking at my watch wondering when the movie was going to be over. In this review, Kimberley Gadette makes a comment on how you should bring a thermous and an alarm clock which I completely agree with. The movie was boring and at times I caught myself starting to slowly fall asleep.
Overall, this review appealed to me because it discussed almost everything that was wrong with the movie such as the color of bellas skin, the smell that Bella has over Edward and how no one cares about the concept of the "plot pacing or character development".

Is there such a thing as too many shoes?

In my opinion, a person can never have too many shoes. My closet is currently filled with at least thirty pairs of shoes with at least half of them being a high heel shoe. When I was younger I had no interest in shoes especially ones that had a heel, but as I grew older I began to become more and more obsessed with shoes. My mom has told me that I've become worse then my sister when it comes to buying shoes and I've come to believe here because today I have more shoes than that of my sister.
I was talking to mom earlier this afternoon and I was telling her that I had to teach my roommate how to walk in heels because she hardly ever wears them. I told my mom that I don't think I will ever be done buying shoes. I just see it as an impossible thing for me not to buy shoes. So to reiterate my point, there is no such thing as too many shoes for anyone, especially for women.

Oh and by the way, I am currently watching Sex and the City the movie and I am so wanting the shoes that Sarah Jessica Parker leaves in the new apartment.

Eating Healthy

I was talking with my roommate the other day about eating healthy and not eating salt because it's bad for your heart. She, as do my other roommates, was giving me crap about eating healthy because I'm quote unquote already skinny. I told her that just because a person is skinny does not mean that they are healthy.
Anyways, we somehow got onto the topic of just how bad salt is but neither one of us really knew how bad salt is for you other than the fact that it is bad for your heart. So we went to google and found out that eating too much salt can cause high blood pressure and lead to other more serious heart problems.
We furthered our discussion by talking about what foods you should buy when grocery shopping. We both agreed that shopping the around the isles is the healthiest because by doing so you are avoiding all the processed foods and preservatives that are in food to make it last longer. By shopping around the isles you are eating fresh fruits and vegtables, meats and dairy products that are good for you and contain no food preservatives.

Paul Harvey

A week or so ago, I learned that Paul Harvey had passes away. I was kind of sad to hear that because I would always listen to him with my dad when I was younger and when we were either picking up irrigation pipe or laying it in the summer. He always talked about interesting topics that you would usually not her anywhere else. I think what I will remember most about Paul Harvery is his closing statement of everyshow. So I think the best way to leave you with is "And now you've heard the rest of the story. Good day".

Internet and its corruption

I posted a blog just recently as an assigment for class and because of the content of the article, my friends and I got reprimanded for it. It started with one person who had nothing better to do with their time other then to look through my facebook account and my blog which I still cannot figure out how they knew about it. Anyways, they saw a post that I wrote at 2 am and emailed it to their friend less than eight hours later, who just so happened to be a district manager. I am not going into detail because I am not going to give whoever this person is anything else that they can use to incriminate me with. I just don't understand why some people have to meddle in others lives. Is it because they have no life or that they just don't have anything better to do than to cause havoc in other people's lives.
As a result of this fiasco, I was told to remove the post from by blog.

Every day there is someone who is going to need a blood transfusion. It only takes one person to save their life by donating blood. One person has the power to save up to three lives every time they donate their blood and therefore should donate blood at least once in their lifetime. It only takes one person donating blood to start a chain reaction that would encourage others to do the same.
Each year the University of Nebraska at Kearney host The American Red Cross and has blood drives throughout the academic year. Each time a daily goal is set and every time it is surpassed by all the students and faculty that took time out of their lives to donate blood.
Each year Blood Wars is held which is completion between all the dorms and Greek housing on campus to see which can donate the most blood. This is a fun way of encouraging students to donate blood and help those in need at the same time.
If the donation level is at 100 percent nationwide, then there will only be a week’s supply of blood. When there is a shortage of donors there would be the possibility of having a shortage of blood. A blood bank is similar to that of an ordinary bank. If you don’t regularly deposit money into the account then there won’t be any in times of crisis when you need it most.
Donating blood is extremely important in saving lives due to the high demand. Each year there are an estimated 5 million people in the United States that are going to need a blood transfusion. A person is allowed to donate blood every 56 days that totals out to six times a year. It is a very serious situation and is imperative that people continue to donate and encourage their friends and family to donate as well so that we are able to keep the blood banks full in case of emergencies.
Donating blood is easy and only takes about thirty minutes of your day. You sign in, take a number and wait to be called back. You will then go over your health history with a nurse who will ask you a series of questions. Next you will have your blood tested for its iron level and if high enough you will proceed and begin the donation process. This process only last about 5-10 minutes depending on how fast you donate. Refreshments are provided after you donate to ensure that you are getting enough sugars in your body. It is important that you rest for at least 10-15 minutes to ensure that you fell well and have your strength.
So please, take half an hour out of your busy day to help someone in need of a blood transfusion. You will have pride and respect for yourself knowing that you helped save three peoples’ lives.

Breakfast and all its wonderfullness

Yes I know "wonderfullness" is not a word but I could not think of a better way of describing breakfast since it is my favorite food/meal of the day. If given a choice I would probably eat breakfast food for every meal.

Anyways, getting back to the topic at hand. I decided to write about breakfast food because it reminds me of my childhood when I had no worries except what cartoon to watch and what game to play. My dad Max was the first to ever cook me breakfast, that I can remember, and ever since then I have loved no other food more. I remember every morning before school, he would cook us a homemade breakfast before my siblings and I would go to the driveway and wait for the big yellow school bus to come pick us up.

My favorite food that my dad makes are his pancakes. He always makes them from scratch and never measures any of the ingredients. Despite these facts, they always turn out perfect and I have yet to find anyone, yes even restaurants, that can make pancakes better than my father. I'm not trying to be prejudice when I say this, but believe me, if you had my dad's pancakes you would be saying the same thing to.

Entertainment Provided by Gas Pumps

Now this may sound a little mean, but it's kinda funny when people can't figure out how to operate a gas pump. I understand that their all different, but there are step-by-step instructions on the ones at Casey's Gerneral Store where I work. Each pump both tells and shows you what to do.
There are many people who come into the store and ask why their card won't work at the pump. I always go out there to help them and as soon as I insert thier card it always works right away for me. A lot of times the customer cannot get thier card to work because they insert it backwards. Occasionally the customer is embarressed, but usually they just go about pumping their gas and are on their way.
Im not sure whether age has any contribution to this problem because it is both young and old that have problems with the gas pumps. I am however going to point out that there are quite a few older people who tend to have more problems then younger people. I was at work tonight and a lady came into the store and said that she could not get the pume to work. She kept reiterating the fact that she has gotten gas there many times and couldn't understand what was going on. When I went out to help her all I did was press pay inside and chose the grade of gasoline that she wanted. Again she commented on how she has gotten gas there so many times and thanked me for my help.

Local Editorial

I plan on writing my local editorial on the blood drives that are held on campus at various times throught the academic year. I am also going to incorportate donating blood at the American Red Cross. I am an avid blood donater and encourage everyone to do so. Donating blood not only saves other peoples lives but it is also good for your body because your body has to replace the blood you have donated.

Parking

My view on campus parking is that it does not apply to me because I live off campus. However when I did live on campus, I never really had a problem with finding a place to park. I lived in Randall Hall which has a rather big parking lot on the side of the dorm. There were times when I would come home from work when I would have to park in the back of the lot and times when I would find a place right in front of the building. In retrospect, there was always a place for me to park whether it was directly in front of the building or further out. The campus ground crew were always pretty good about keeping the parking lot clear of snow and any other debris that might have been in the way.
It seems to me that there were and is always someone who has to complaign about parking on campus. I never understood what was so bad about it and probably never will. Having to walk a few extra steps to get to your dorm or class is no big deal. In fact, maybe it's a good thing because it forces you to get some exercise that you might not otherwise get.

Nebraska's Smoking Ban

Late last year, Nebraska passed into law a statewide smoking ban that goes into effect in June 2009. Many people have biased opinions on the subject solely because they are supporting their own opinions and beliefs and are not allowing themselves to be open to other views on the topic. In short, this allows the topic to be highly controversial to the point where there is always going to be someone who isn’t happy about the outcome.
There has been a lot of controversy on whether restaurants and other businesses such as bars would survive the smoking ban. People are saying that they will lose business since people will no longer be able to smoke inside the building. This statement is not true because people will continue to frequent their favorite places such as restaurants and bars regardless of whether they are permitted to smoke inside or not. It has been said that the restaurants and bars will actually see an increase in sales and overall business because those who don’t smoke will want to go out more frequently.
People who smoke are not going to up and change their daily/weekly routines just because they are no longer allowed to smoke in a public place. In fact, there are many who already go outside to smoke so that their children and other family members don’t have to breathe in the secondhand smoke and also because they don’t want their home to have the constant smell and cloud of smoke that goes with it.
Late last year, Nebraska passed into law a statewide smoking ban that goes into effect in June 2009.. One might argue that putting up a partial wall or installing an air purification system would solve the problem but that is not case. Scientific evidence has proved that this will not eliminate exposure to secondhand smoke.
This is not just a Republican or Democrat issue, it is an issue that affects us all no matter what political party we belong to. Of all the senators that responded to an Associated Press poll, almost half of them supported a statewide smoking ban without exceptions for cities such as Omaha. Many believe that it is apparent to the entire state since Omaha put in for a smoking ban more than a year and a half before Lincoln and Lincoln was able to pass a smoking ban long before Omaha.
The statewide smoking ban should have been passed long ago but at least it is finally going into effect and everyone can breathe freer because of it.

As some of you may have already noticed, I have not posted any blogs for week 5. I was in Arizona for my sister Heathers wedding. Things were pretty busy and forgot to blog while I was away.

Customers

I work at a convenience store and I just cannot understand why it is so hard for some people to clean up after themeselves. Im not just talking about kids when I say this. In fact it is adults who are the ones who make the most mess. A lady came into the store and got a foutain pop. Well she spilled the pop on the counter probably because she overfilled her cup. Anyways, instead of cleaning it up like she should have done, she left it there for me to clean it probably because she thought that since I work there it is my responsibility to clean up for her. Well I understand that it is my job to keep the store clean but people should have the common courtesy to at least clean up after themselves. Things like this make me wonder just what their home looks like or if the person is just that inconsiderate and lazy.

Childhood Toys

I came across some of my old childhood toys when I was going through my old room the other day. I found a cushy ball, some dome shaped poppers that when turned inside out go sky high and my bouncy ball collection that I had started when I was a little kid all packed away in a box left to be forgotten.
I was like a little kid in toy store all over again. My mom kept laughing at me because I would randomly start playing with them and I’d get off the task at hand which was going through everything and getting rid of what I didn’t want or use anymore. Well naturally even though I’d forgotten all about my toys that I’d recently discovered, I still wasn’t ready to part with them and decided to keep them and bring them back to school with me.
Even though they probably have no monetary value, I was still overjoyed to find them because they reminded me of my childhood and growing up in the country where my siblings and I could go outside and do whatever we wanted whether it be playing/building forts in the woods, tearing up the yard with the four wheeler or playing cops and robbers.
I began to wonder why there aren’t any good toys made anymore. I mean nowadays everything is electronic and really expensive. There are all these new video game consoles and games that came out and so many different variations of them that if you’re not into them you don’t know which is which. I’m not trying to be a hater against today’s toy market or technology, I’m just simply saying that I would prefer to play with the toys I had during my childhood. They didn’t require any batteries and were affordable for everyone to buy.

Stereotypes

As a child we learn that there are different groups of people, different social classes and because of this we are sterotyped to fit in to one of those groups. We are put into categories such as the prep, the jock, the cheerleader, the geek, and the outcast to name a few. We let others define who we are based on their perceptions of us and not on who we truly are.
Many of us go through life hiding our true identities afraid to let others see exactly who we are and what it is that we truly love to do. The geek for instance is always reguarded as being the brainy one who goes home everyday and studys. However this ins't true. I mean what is it that qualifies you as being a geek. Is it that you spend your entire day playing video games? Is it that you would rather sit at home and read a book most nights instead of going out and drinking or getting into trouble? What is it exactly that makes it ok for others to determine what kink of person we really are.
Now take the popular one. They can go through life and never truly be happy. They present themsleves to everyone around them as being happy and energetic but inside they wish they were someone else.
There are some people in this world who will pass judgement on you because they don't like the way you dress and they feel that you are inferior to them. They think that because they have better things in life that they are automatically better then you. The reality of this senario is that it is not material things that makes life worth living. It is that you have family and friends that care for you. It is that you live a happy and meaninful life with what you have that makes life worth living.
The simple fact of the matter is that we shouldn't allow others to define who we are. There is only one person who can do that that and that is yourself. Life is what you make of it and only you can truly make yourself happy.

Weddings: What makes them so fun?

In less then a week I leave to go to my sisters wedding in Arizona and it just got me thinking about what it is about weddings that people love so much. What is it about weddings that just allows people to let loose and have fun?

I think the answer to these questions is that weddings are a time for family and friends to get together and have a reason to celebrate. It allows them to have a reason to leave their job, school and daily routines behind to travel to a different state or place and reuinte with people they don't often get to see. At weddings there's dancing, music, food and overall the ability to be yourself.

Layoffs

Just the other day my friend called me and told me that Chief in Grand Island let some workers go because of the low demand due to the poor economy. He also told me that they arn't allowing any overtime and won't be working on Fridays anymore.

Lately, I have been seeing alot of this in the papers. It seems that everytime I turn around I'm hearing about someone or some other place/factory that is having to let people go. The unemployment rate is steadily increasing and has nearly doubled what it was only a few years ago. Our economy is going downhill at a fast pace and will not get better for a long time. It used to be that the dolloar was worth more than the Euro but not the Euro is worth one and a half times that of the dollar. As America we need to work together to rebuild our economy and decrease the unemployment rate. Hopefully Brarak Obama can do a much better job at governing America then George W. Bush did.

Economic hardships for students

In today’s world we are suffering from economic hardships every time we turn around whether it is from losing one’s job or not being able to make ends meet. The cost of everyday living keeps going up at an alarming rate and is not going to change anytime in the near future. With people being either laid off or going through another crisis such as a divorce, it has become harder to get by on what we already have.
Students in both the high school and at the college level are also being affected by the poor economy. High school students are being affected by the economy in many ways. More and more parents are applying for help with school supplies and for the federal free lunch program which has double its size in the past five years in certain areas of the United States. An increase of parents has been applying for help from prosperous neighborhoods which has surprised some school officials. These families sometimes fall just in between the earned income level and have to be turned away because they earned just over the maximum amount to be considered eligible.
College students have been affected by the poor economy by way of either losing an on-campus job or having to apply for more student loans due to parents not being able to help pay for their child’s tuition. Funds have become low on some campuses throughout the United States which is causing departments to have to let go of students to stay within the budget. A continued recession is cause for concern because there are more students every year who need or are seeking student employment on-campus. With big factories lying off hundreds of workers at a time, college students will have an even harder time finding jobs since those laid off will be looking for a job that will at least allow them to pay the bills. This is a roundabout problem because parents are losing their jobs and therefore can’t help out their child. This in turns leads to the parent having to find a job that the child/student otherwise would’ve had.
Avoiding the poor and failing economy is inevitable but there are things we can do and precautions we can take to prepare ourselves for the worst that could happen. Saving up money so that we have enough to cover expenses for at least three months and staying home more often will allow us to be more financially stable. We should avoid using credit cards so that we don’t dig ourselves into a debt that we can’t get out of. Finding a second job if you fear a lay off might be in store and applying for government help such as food stamps and unemployment are other ways to beat the economic hardships.

Toucans

Toucans have been said to have a beak a third a size of their body. It is comprised of a keratin material that is found in fingernails. The article that I found this is in was given to me by a customer who thought it was interesting. The article went on to discuss whether it was coincidence or not and went on to discuss whether it was possble that we could learn from the Toucan's beak.
I believe that it was by pure coincidence because how can we have afected how a Toucan's beak was going to turn out when we were not even on the planet? The beak of a Toucan was formed by evolution, not by coincidence.

Texting

I am one who texts alot but there are somethings that should not be talked about via text messages. One thing that really annoys me is when people text you about relationship issues. I don't know if this has happened to anyone currently or in the past, but it has happened to me. In fact, it happened tonight while I was at work. Now I understand that we're not suppose to be on the phone while at work, but conversations like this can wait until you are off work or even better when you can talk in person.

It also bothers me when you text someone and they just don't get the point. They act as though they didn't read the last message that you sent them. For instance they ask you if you want to come over and you tell them 'no' that your staying home tonight and then half an hour later they text you again and ask you the same thing. The answer is not going to change, especially in half an hour's time.

Now I know I've said some negative things about texting, but I do believe that texting can be a good thing. I text people on a daily basis usually to ask them a quick question. I text them instead of calling them because I'm not sure if their in class or at work. If it's something really important I will tell them to call me when they have time or when they are not busy. Since there is a time difference between here and Arizona and I am not familiar with my sisters schedule, I usually text here instead of calling her. This way she can respond and tell me that she's busy or she can respond and we can communicate that way.

N.Y. splash landing

I read an article in USA Today about a plane that crashed in the Hudson river. It was said that a flock of birds were the cause of the plane crash. The pilot, Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger was a former Air Force fighter and has flown for U.S. Airways for 29 years. The cause of the plane crash was due to birds causing both engines to fail at once. Birds often get tangled up in the engines of airplanes but they rarely cause a plane to crash.
I am an avid flyer since I have family in three different states. Ever since I was a little kid I have loved to fly. Reading articles like this kinda makes you think about what could happpen next and whether or not it will happen to you. However, I have read many articles such as this one andmany others including ones about September 11, 2001 and yet flying has never bothered me to any extent. What I'm really wondering is how do others feel about flying on comercial airliners.
